Press Release –
Spring Tonics, At-Home Day
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Spring Fever Brings Herbalists to the Wise Woman Center to Begin the Year’s Harvest
Woodstock, NY (PRWEB) April 22, 2006 – Herbalists around the country are drawn each year to the Wise Woman Center in Woodstock, NY. They join Susun Weed in one of her first Northeast classes of the season.
Author of four best-selling books, and founder of the Wise Woman Center, Susun Weed encourages visitor’s to “cure (or create) spring fever, bite buds, smell roots, and think green.” She enjoys teaching the secrets of birch water, root beer, dandelion wine, rampions, wild horseradish, and nettle soup, among other pleasures the season brings.
It’s a long held tradition that the plants and trees of spring can be harvested and prepared in a way that nourishes people as is well needed after a long winter. The sap is rising in the trees and the perennial and biennial roots have yet to put their winter store of nutrients into towering plants.
Digging for these root tonics in springs allows us a chance to get in the dirt, sometimes before the weather has allowed garden preparations. Harvesting the twigs of trees and savoring their sweet spring sap reminds us that life is active, though the green has yet to appear.
“Spring Tonics,” a one-day class with Susun Weed, will be held at the Wise Woman Center in Woodstock, NY, on April 22, 2006, from 10am-5pm. The cost is $75, with a $10 discount if paid one week ahead, and $20 discount if paid two weeks ahead. Class includes a delicious wild foods lunch.
Weather permitting, the class leaves promptly at 10:15 am for a walk in the woods with the goats, where you will have a talking stick ceremony, and lots of time to identify and talk about plants and ask questions. When the goats take a break, a wild food lunch will be prepared and enjoyed. Class size will be kept small to allow personal attention. Class held indoors in case of rain.
